COLONY — It was an uphill battle from the start for the Crest Lancers Tuesday night, one that they couldn’t surmount, but head coach Travis Hermreck had his head held high nonetheless.
The Lancers were overcome by stout offense from the Olpe Eagles, 56-40.
“We had a miserable night shooting the ball,” Hermreck said. “We couldn’t get anything to fall.”
Crest was knocked on their heels from the start, as the Eagles came out in the first with a 16-3 beating. But the home team responded in the second to match their opponents 14 points to make the halftime score 30-17.
“I was really proud of the way the guys responded,” he said. “We left everything on the court.”
The Lancers outscored the Eagles in the third, 17-16, before both teams trailed off on offense in the fourth to finish the contest.
Hunter Frazell led for the Lancers with 16 points — 12 of which came from three-pointers. Brock Ellis had seven, and Austin Green had seven as well.
The loss puts the Lancers’ record at 6-7 on the season. They play Southern Coffey County at home Thursday for the homecoming game, and play Oswego at home Friday.
