COLONY — Crest High’s Lancers snared a win at home Thursday while the Lady Lancers lost in makeup games with Northern Heights High School of Allen.
Wrapping up regular season action this week with three doubleheaders, the Crest teams split with the Wildcats. Crest travels to Uniontown tonight then opens Class 1A regional tournament play next week.
The Lancers dug out a 55-44 win Thursday night at home. They trailed by three after one quarter and led 20-19 at halftime.
Northern Heights outscored Crest 16-14 in the third quarter. The Lancers went on a 21-9 run to end the game and win.
“This was a very gritty win for us,” said Travis Hermreck, Crest boys’ head coach. “Execution wasn’t the best but we battled out a win against a good team.
“Wins like this help build momentum.”
Zach Stinnett, who was 6-for-6 at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, ended up with 19 points and nine rebounds. Dexter Wiley and Bryan Newton each had 13 points.
Wiley had six steals and four assists. Kyle Hammond had four assists.
Northern Heights’ girls rolled to a 35-19 halftime lead and defeated the Lady Lancers 55-27.
Amanda Strickler scored 15 points, hitting 13 of 15 free throws, for Crest.
In a two-quarter girls’ junior varsity game, Northern Heights won 20-8.
