COLONY — Crest’s boys and girls fell in close, home losses Tuesday night to Southeast-Cherokee.

The boys fell 44-39 despite being down double digits heading into the fourth quarter and the girls came up just short of victory in their 54-52 overtime loss.

The losses drop both teams to 8-10 on the season.

The Lancers led by a point after the first quarter but a 9-5 second quarter allowed Cherokee to grab a three-point lead at the half.

Cherokee made a run in the third quarter that saw it outscore Crest 18-9 and take a 12-point lead into the fourth quarter.

The Lancers offense started to come around, outscoring Cherokee 14-7 in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough.

“Since the beginning of last week we have had one practice and one game, so coming into tonight against a team like Southeast with that little preparation was nerve racking,” head coach Travis Hermreck said. “Offensively we were an absolute train wreck, but I couldn’t be prouder of the effort and intensity we played with.”

Senior Hayden Hermreck led the way with 17 points followed by nine for junior Zach Beckmon and six for senior Jacob Holloran. Freshman Ethan Prasko also had six points and sophomore Tyson Hermreck had a point.

Individual stats were unavailable for the Lady Lancers.

Crest will play at Olpe tonight for a make-up game before wrapping up a busy week on Thursday with a game at Jayhawk-Linn.
