HARTFORD — Southern Coffey County High’s Lady Titans made it to the championship match Saturday despite losing its first match of the tournament.
The Lady Titans pulled out a close win in the first game of the title match against Burlingame High’s Bearcats. But Burlingame won the next two games to win 23-25, 25-13, 25-19.
Southern Coffey County settled for second at the 2010 Hartford High Invitational.
“The girls’ showed a lot of character and mental toughness Saturday. To start off on a sour note then turn it around and get to the championship match was proof of that,” said Korey Lankton, SCCH head coach.
The Lady Titans improved to 9-4 overall. They get another shot at Burlingame tonight in Lyon County League play at Burlingame along with Waverly.
“We will have to beat a team like Burlingame in substate if we want to move on. Now we know what to work on,” Lankton said.
The Lady Titans lost to White City 25-23, 25-23 to open pool play. They bounced back to beat Hartford 25-18, 25-10 and Northern Heights 25-19, 25-10.
That put Southern Coffey County in bracket play. The Lady Titans defeated Mission Valley 20-25, 25-18, 25-15.
Against White City, Ashton Isch delivered 10 kills and Sam Jacob had eight kills. Keasha Parks was credited with 11 set assists and Brooke Scheele had 10.
Kristen Stephens racked up seven kills against Hartford. Scheel had eight assists.
Sarah Webb put down nine kills and Scheele had 11 set assists in the Northern Heights match. Jenna Witteman had 14 digs.
Isch and Stephens controlled the net game for the Lady Titans against Mission Valley. Each had eight kills. Parks had 18 assists and Sam Jacob had 12 digs.
In the title match, Jacob had nine kills and Scheele had 10 set assists. Stephens pounded down eight kills and made five blocks at the net.
