BURLINGAME — Southern Coffey County High’s Lady Titans lost to a hot-handed Burlingame High Bearcat team Tuesday.
“Burlingame shot the ball extremely well, both inside and out,” said Jeff True, Lady Titan head coach, after his team lost 71-65 in a make-up game at Burlingame. “We’ve got to do a better job defensively.”
The Lady Titans fell to 3-4 in Lyon County League play and 5-4 overall.
Southern Coffey County opens the LCL Tournament Monday in Emporia. The Lady Titans play Madison at 4 p.m. at White Auditorium.
Southern Coffey County led 35-33 at halftime. The Bearcats outscored the Lady Titans 21-13 in the third period to gain a 54-48 advantage.
Each team scored 17 points in the final eight minutes. Burlingame sank 12 of 15 free throws to maintain its lead.
“Our girls did a nice job moving the ball and did a good job of getting the ball inside to Kristin Stephens and Sarah Webb,” True said.
Stephens responded with 23 points and eight re-bounds.
Webb tossed in 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Ashton Isch fired in 14 points, which included four three-point field goals. She also had eight rebounds. Jenna Witteman dished out five assists.
Hayley Lewis scored 23 points for the Bearcats. Danielle Greenwood had 16 and Shelby Love added 13.
There was no detailed report on the boys’ game but Burlingame beat the Titans 50-40.
