LE ROY — Southern Coffey County High’s girls were almost able to overcome not having three key contributors.
Playing without Ashton Isch (ankle), Katelyn Rogers (knee) and Breanna Isch (knee), the Lady Titans were within three points of visiting Lebo High after three quarters.
But they weren’t able to overcome struggles at the free-throw line.
Southern Coffey County hit only 13 of 33 free throws and scored only one point in the final quarter of a 31-25 loss to Lebo.
“I was proud of our girls’ effort tonight,” Lady Titan head coach Jeff True said. “The girls battled hard for all four quarters, but couldn’t get many shots to fall.”
The Lady Titans deployed a stingy defense as well. SCC led 5-2 after one quarter and trailed 16-14 at the break. Lebo forged in front 27-24 after three quarters.
The Lady Titans allowed only a pair of Lebo field goals — good for four points — but SCC hit only 1 of 9 charities in the quarter. Lebo went 0 of 7 from the line in the period.
Kristen Stephens had seven points and nine rebounds to lead the Lady Titans. Ashley Johnson and Sarah Webb grabbed six boards apiece. Jenna Witteman had five steals.
Jessica Robertson scored 13 to lead the Lady Wolves.
Lebo also won the junior varsity contest 28-4 in three quarters.
Southern Coffey County (9-8) hosts St. Paul on Monday and Uniontown Tuesday.
