The Allen Community College women’s basketball team lost 96-62 to Crowder College on Thursday night at home.
The Lady Red Devils dropped to 4-4 on the season.
“They literally could have scored as many points as they wanted to,” ACC coach Todd Buchanan said.
The 96 points Allen surrendered Thursday were the second-most allowed this season. The most came during the first matchup of the year with the Roughriders back on Nov. 4 when the Lady Red Devils gave up 98 points.
Although Crowder maintained the lead from start to finish, Allen was within 6 points by the end of the first quarter and showed promise with its potent transition offense led by sophomore Ashley Washington.
But the Roughriders’ offense proved too much to handle as the game progressed and they finished shooting 44.4 percent from the floor and 42.3 percent from beyond the three-point arc.
“They’re a team you really can’t get down to because they shoot the 3-ball so well,” Buchanan said. “When they shoot it that well and you get down, it’s almost impossible to come back.”
But Allen’s first-year coach added he was proud how his team fought back despite the large deficit. He added there were a couple of times in the second half where he saw his players “stand around” and “stop playing,” at which point he quickly called a timeout and corrected their behavior.
Washington was the Lady Red Devils’ most effective offensive player, finishing the night with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting.
As a team, Allen shot 36.9 percent from the floor and just 28.6 percent from three-point range.
