After spending a while on the road, the Crest Lady Lancers returned to Colony to host Jayhawk-Linn and Yates Center for Senior Night. The Lady Lancers have six seniors including Jewel Armstrong, Camryn Strickler, Regan Godderz, Cassie Bowen, Breyanna Benjamin and Vicky Rodriguez.
Crest celebrated the night with a three-set win over Jayhawk-Linn before falling to Yates Center in a sweep. With the split, Crest moves to 10-16 overall and 5-4 in Three Rivers League play.
The Lady Lancers nearly got a sweep over Jayhawk-Linn after taking set one 25-23 but fell just short in a 25-27 set two. It all came down to set three and the Lady Lancers escaped with a 25-23 win.
The varsity battled, head coach Abigal Hermreck said. Neither team was letting up and both played hard. We played with intensity and confidence, ran our offense, and hustled. It was really fun to watch.
Bowen had a team-high nine kills to go along with seven digs, three aces and two blocks. Strickler was dominant defensively, recording a team-high 19 digs along with three kills, an ace, and two blocks.
Sophomore Aubree Holloran had 12 digs, five kills, an ace and two blocks, Godderz had four digs, two kills and three aces, Armstrong had seven digs, three kills and three aces, Benjamin had seven digs, Anna Hermreck had three kills and Lindsey Godderz had two digs.
Crest struggled to close the night out and they lost in two lopsided sets to Yates Center (25-10, 25-12).
I think we may have been better off playing Yates Center immediately after (Jayhawk-Linn) instead of taking a break, Hermreck said. We could not get a thing going against them. We had lost our spark and could not get the
passes we needed. We wanted to get all wins at home, but I hope the girls can hold on to the positive things that happened, the feeling we had after winning the first match.
Armstrong had four digs, two kills and an ace, Godderz had three digs, a kill and an ace, Holloran had three digs and three kills. Benjamin had three digs and Strickler had two digs and a block.
The Lady Lancers will play in the Uniontown tournament on Saturday before traveling to Southeast-Cherokee on Tuesday for their final match of the season.
