PITTSBURG — The Crest High School Lady Lancers’ uptick in offense production came a bit short in Monday’s 12-10 and 14-2 losses to the Northeast Vikings.
Following an early Crest offensive explosion, the Vikings overcame the deficit to take the opener, then had their own early offensive explosion in the finale and ran away with the series despite Crest posting runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
A two-RBI double by Crest senior third baseman Delaney Ramsey got the Lady Lancers off to a great start Monday, then a hard chopper by junior outfielder Kinley Edgerton drove in Ramsey to take Crest’s lead to 3-0.
A pair of fielding errors allowed junior first baseman Aylee Beckmon to circle the bases with one swing, which officials later registered as an RBI single. Another Northeast error allowed Crest to extend its lead to 5-3 third inning, but the Vikings tied the game in the fourth.
After the Vikings put together a four-run fifth inning, the Lady Lancers chipped away at the deficit with senior second baseman Karlee Boots stealing home in the sixth. Crest tacked two more runs on RBIs from Jaycee Schmidt and pitcher Hanna Schmidt in the seventh, but it was not enough as the Vikings held on for the 12-10 win.
With the loss, Crest drops to 0-4. The Lady Lancers hope to pick up their first win Thursday, when they host Yates Center for a double header. The games are slated for 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.
