KINCAID Year two couldnt be going any better for Crest Softball and head coach Casey Cook.
The Lady Lancers struggled through numbers problems and growing pains throughout their inaugural season in 2018 only to head into the 2019 season with a team full of returning veterans and goal to really make improvements in year two.
If Thursdays results were any indications, they are well on track to achieve just that.
Crest hosted Northeast-Arma in their season opener and after waiting through a 45-minute rain and lightning delay, the Lady Lancers made easy work of their hosts, winning 13-11 and 17-0.
It was a great start to our second season, Cook said. Even after the delay, the girls found a way to come in focused and they kept their composure. Everyone contributed and it was a long, but fun, night.
Things were pretty tight in game one. Crest took an early 5-3 lead after four innings but Arma jumped out in front with a six-run top of the fifth to go ahead 9-5.
The Lady Lancers tied things up in the bottom of the fifth with four runs and then did themselves one better with another four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 13-9 lead.
Arma attempted a seventh-inning rally but only got two runs across.
Camryn Strickler and Aubree Holloran each turned in four-hit performances in the win along with two hits from Rylee Beckmon, Regan Godderz, Cassie Bowen and Jewell Armstrong.
Game two was much less close.
The 17-0 smackdown started with 11 runs in the first inning for Crest and another six in the second inning to send Arma packing with a three-inning run-rule.
Holloran earned the win on the mound in game one and Ridley Black got the win in game two.
Godderz led the Lady Lancers with three hits followed by two each from Beckmon, Holloran, Strickler and Bowen.
The Lady Lancers will hit the road on Monday when they travel to Southeast-Cherokee before returning home on Thursday to face Oswego.
