Junior College Softball: Allen County Lady Devils
After wrapping up their 10-game homestand on Wednesday, the Allen County softball team started off an eight-game road trip with a split at Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Nebraska.
The Lady Devils lost the first game 9-6 before bouncing back with a 13-0 five-inning win in the second.
Allen County is now 11-21 overall.
In the first game, Southeast took a 5-2 lead after the fourth inning. The Lady Devils tied it up at five in the top of the sixth and took their first lead of the game, 6-5, in the top of the eighth inning.
Southeast finished things off with four runs in the bottom of the eighth to get the win.
Catcher Sam Greninger led the Lady Devils at the plate recording four hits and driving home a run. Darby Lewis had three hits and Winter and Chelsey Henry each had two hits including a homerun for Chelsey.
Chelsey started the game for the Red Devils, going 3.2 innings and giving up five runs on nine hits and two walks.
The second game went significantly better for Allen County starting with a big eight-run first inning. The Lady Devils added three more runs in the top of the second to push their lead to 11-0.
Starter Abby Walker did a masterful job of holding Southeast down, keeping them scoreless throughout the entirety of the game while the Lady Devil bats drove in runs in the top of the fourth and fifth to end the game.
Winter Henry and Chelsea Lake each homered. For Henry, the homerun was one of her team-high three hits. She also led the team in RBIs with four.
Abby Walker and Alexey Lickteig and Ashlie Shields recorded two hits each.
Walker went the full five innings and pitched a shutout allowing just five hits and walk. Walker struck-out three batters.
The Lady Devils travel to Fort Scott on Tuesday.
