The Allen Community College volleyball team continued to struggle on Monday as they fell to No. 11 Cowley Community College in straight sets (7-25, 16-25, 9-25).
The Red Devils committed 14 errors.
In all three sets, Cowley got out to a big lead but only in set two did the Lady Devils fight their way back to tie it up at 9-all and take a brief one point, 10-9 lead.
Cowley reeled off three straight to force an Allen timeout and then went on to outscore the Lady Devils 13-6 to close out the set.
“We had a little bit of something going but I think we were intimidated from the start,” head coach Whitney Shaw said. “We get one opportunity tomorrow in the gym to be better than we were today and then take it on the road and try to get a win.”
In sets one and three, the Lady Devils couldn’t dig their way out of large and early holes as they lost by 18 and 16 respectively.
Freshman outside hitter Bhana Gony led the way with six kills and no one recorded an ace. Emily Fritz and Holly Shinn each chipped in three kills.
Fritz had 1.5 blocks while Shinn and Kaitlyn Barnes both recorded six digs.
The Lady Devils will hit the road to play their first regional match of the season versus Hesston (6-9, 1-2) on Wednesday.
