Lady Cubs win two

HUMBOLDT — Big offensive innings powered Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs to two victories at home Tuesday.

The Lady Cubs stayed undefeated, winning a Tri-Valley League doubleheader against visiting Cherryvale High’s Chargers. They won 21-5 in three innings then went the full seven innings to take an 11-7 decision in the second contest.

Humboldt improved to 10-0 in league action. The Lady Cubs are 14-0 overall.

The Lady Cubs opened the first game with an eight-run first inning. Humboldt led Cherryvale 9-5 after two innings. The Lady Cubs produced 12 runs in the third to get the run-rule win.

Jaci Ross was the winning pitcher. She gave up five hits, walked one and struck out three.

At the plate for the Lady Cubs, Hannah McCall came within a home run of hitting for the cycle. She had a single, a double and a triple, driving in three runs.

Kylee Carson hit a single and a double while Kayle Riebel and Megan Herder each had two singles. Taylyn Wells, Morgan Morris and Kindahl Young each had a single. Humboldt had 11 stolen bases in the game.

Trailing 6-1, the Lady Cubs plated eight runs in the second frame of the second game. They added two more in the third and held Cherryvale scoreless until the seventh to win 11-7.

Wells made a bid for hitting for the cycle in this game, with a home run, a double and a triple. She had four RBIs. Carson hit two singles and a double.

Breanna Kline and McCall each had a double. Morris hit a triple and a single. Kayle Riebel, Young and Herder each had a base hit.

Ross was the winning pitcher, going five innings and giving up seven runs on eight hits, four walks and a hit batter. She struck out four. 

Kline threw two innings in relief. She gave up two hits and struck out two.

Humboldt hosts Oswego Friday in non-league play.
