HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs evened up their softball record with a doubleheader sweep at home Monday.
The Lady Cubs defeated Eureka High’s Tornadoes 11-6 in the opener. Then used a nine-run sixth inning to rally for a 12-11 victory in the nightcap.
That puts the Lady Cubs at 3-3 overall. Humboldt is also 3-3 in Tri-Valley League play.
Melissa Davidson recorded 10 strikeouts as the winning pitcher in the first game for Humboldt. She allowed eight hits and walked five.
Hannah McCall led the Humboldt 18-hit offense with three doubles while Kayle Riebel and Haley Riebel each had three singles. Taylor Fitzmaurice hit two singles and had four stolen bases.
Kylee Carson and Julie Seibert each had a single and a double. Taylyn Wells, Davidson and Kindahl Young had a single apiece.
“Melissa pitched a great game and Hannah did it with the bat,” said Brad Piley, Lady Cub head coach. “It was the best game of the year so far.”
Then came a rally in the second game. Eureka led 10-3 after five innings.
“Our girls never gave up in this game. To be able to score nine runs in the sixth inning may help us in later games,” Pile said.
Davidson got the win, allowing six hits, walking four and striking out five. She also had a double and a single.
Seibert had two singles and Morgan Morris doubled.
Hitting a single each were Fitzmaurice, Wells, McCall, Carson, K. Riebel and Megan Herder.
