NEODESHA — Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs rolled right out of the gate of the 2012 softball season and into two victories.
The Lady Cubs made quick work of the Tri-Valley League doubleheader Tuesday. They posted two three-inning, run-rule wins over host Neodesha High’s Bluestreaks.
Freshman pitchers Jaci Ross and Breanne Kline dominated for the Lady Cubs. Ross threw a two-hitter in a 17-0 win then Kline recorded her first high school career no-hitter, winning 19-0.
“I was very happy with our pitching. We didn’t give up any walks and just two hits,” said Brad Piley, Humboldt head coach.
“It was hard to get good looks in the batter’s box. Neodesha’s pitchers struggled and gave up 28 walks.”
In the first game, Kayle Riebel and Megan Herder each connected for a double and a single. Hannah McCall and Ross each had a single.
Kayle Riebel had nine stolen bases and Kline had seven.
Kline tripled and had three stolen bases in the second game. Taylyn Wells tripled. Kylee Carson doubled.
McCall and Kindahl Young had a single apiece. Young and Haley Riebel had three stolen bases.
