Lady Cubs rout Burlington

HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs stayed perfect through six games of the young 2012 softball season.

The Lady Cubs rolled to big-margin victories over visiting Burlington High’s Wildcats Monday in Tri-Valley League play. Humboldt won 11-1 in the first game and 12-2 in the second game.

But the TVL games were closer than the final score indicates.

Humboldt was up 5-1 after five innings then plated six runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn a run-rule victory. Jaci Ross was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits, walking three and striking out five.

Taylyn Wells hit three singles for Humboldt. Breanna Kline, Kylee Carson, Morgan Morris and Megan Herder each delivered a single and a double. Kindahl Young doubled. Hannah McCall hit two singles.

Ross was back on the mound in the second game and the Lady Cubs led 5-2 after three innings. Ross held the Wildcats to eight hits, walked one batter and struck out one.

The Lady Cubs ended the game in five innings this time with a seven-run fifth for the 10-run margin. Kline cranked out a two-run home run over the left field fence in the game for Humboldt.

Kayle Riebel connected for a single, a double and a triple. McCall hit two doubles and a single andMorris had two singles and a double. Kasey Beeman hit two singles. Young had a single and a double. Wells and Carson had a single apiece.

Humboldt is 4-0 in league play and 6-0 overall. Humnboldt goes to Eureka next Monday in TVL action.
