CANEY — An early comeback set the tone Tuesday for Humboldt High’s volleyball team.
The Lady Cubs trailed 22-17 in their opening set against Neodesha, and rallied to force the set into extra points.
Despite falling just short in the set, 26-24, “we were able to build on that,” Humboldt head coach Terry Meadows said.
So even though Humboldt found itself trailing again in the second set, the Lady Cubs were able to turn the tide in their favor, 25-23.
That in turn set up a dominating third and decisive set, which Humboldt won going away, 25-9.
The come-from-behind victory capped a 2-0 night for Humboldt, which earlier defeated host Caney Valley in straight sets, 25-15 and 25-14 to improve to 20-6 on the season.
“I was proud of the girls for fighting all night long,” Meadows said.
