Humboldt volleyball had a nice weekend finishing second at the Neodesha Tournament on Saturday.
“I thought the girls played very hard today,” head coach Terry Meadows said. “We found ways to win in some close games and that is good to see this late in the season. We improved our passing and serving today which was good to see.”
The Lady Cubs started things off with a 2-0 win over Caney Valley (25-17, 25-23).
Aricah McCall led the way with eight kills while Alayna Johnson and Rylan Wilhite each had two aces. Sydney Houk put up two blocks.
Humboldt then took on Parsons and fell in straight sets (8-25, 14-25).
McCall, Lizzie Myers and Madison Gean each had two kills while Houk had two blocks in the loss. The Lady Cubs did not record any aces.
Humboldt got back on track after that with a 2-0 win over host Neodesha (25-11. 25-12).
Houk and McCall each had five kills while Kaylie Johnson and Myers had four kills. Alayna Johnson had five aces and Gean had four aces.
The Lady Cubs recorded their final loss of the day versus Southeast Cherokee, falling 0-2 (15-25, 18-25).
Myers had five kills and McCall had three kills while three different Lady Cubs had an ace. What killed Humboldt was errors as they had 15 in the match compared to just 17 kills.
The Lady Cubs closed out the tournament with a 2-0 win over Baxter Springs in a tight one (27-25, 25-21).
Myers had seven kills and Kaylie Johnson had six kills. Gean and McCall had two aces.
Humboldt will close out their regular season at Fredonia where they’ll play the Yellowjackets and Leon-Bluestem before Sub-State play at Wellsville.
