HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs didn’t let the sting of a tough loss linger Friday.
Humboldt saw Central Heights pull away with four runs in the sixth and five in the seventh to nab a 15-6 victory in the first round of the Lindsey Friederich Memorial Tournament.
Undaunted, Humboldt responded with a wallop against Neodesha later in the afternoon.
The Lady Cubs scored five in the first, four in the second and six in the third to roll to a 16-6 win to secure third place.
Humboldt (11-3) returns for regular season action Tuesday at Cherryvale.
Brooklyn Ellis had a key triple as the Lady Cubs rebounded from an early 6-1 deficit against Central Heights. She had two RBIs and a single, while pitching the first five innings. She gave up 10 hits with three strikeouts. Shelby Shaughnessy came on in relief and gave up 13 hits.
Kirsty Murrow singled twice, stole four bases and scored a pair of runs. Karley Wools had three singles with four stolen bases, an RBI and three runs.
Shaughnessy had three hits, a stolen base and RBI. Emily Ross and Chloe Daniels added two singles each. Carsyn Haviland had a double.
ELLIS kept up her offensive game against Neodesha, drilling a two-run single in the first as the Lady Cubs broke out to a 5-1 lead.
Shaughnessy, Haviland and Laken Hunter all had RBI singles in the second, extending the lead to 9-1, before Murrow, Ellis, Haviland and Hunter each had RBI hits in the third.
Ellis pitched the distance, giving up nine hits with six strikeouts, to go with her three singles, a double, a stolen base, two runs and three RBIs.
Murrow tacked on a home run with her single. She also scored three times, stole two bases and had two RBIs. Shaughnessy had three singles, three runs and an RBI.
