HUMBOLDT — A tough second half spoiled the final home game of the year Thursday for Humboldt Middle School’s girls.

Visiting Fredonia outscored Humboldt 16-10 after halftime to nip the Lady Cubs at the end, 25-22.

“This was a tough one,” Humboldt coach Scott Brady Said. “They really wanted to go out with a win.”

And a quick early start gave Humboldt (5-6) the advantage, but shooting struggles spelled doom.

“My two leading scorers were a combined 0-17 from the floor,” Brady said. “Not going to win many games with that.

“We got out to an early lead but then we let off and it was anyone’s game at that point,” he said.

Bailey Daniels led the Lady Cub effort with 13 points and eight steals. Harlowe Rush followed with four points and four steals, while Leah Carman and Hadley Galloway notched two points each. Lakyn Meadows chipped in with a point.

Kacyn Spohn had 16 points for Fredonia, including a pair of key late 3-pointers.

“We still haven’t played a complete  game yet,” Brady said. ‘We have three road games left over the next two weeks.”

THE LADY CUB B team had a much more enjoyable evening, improving to 10-1 with a 35-10 romp.

All 10 Humboldt players scored, led by Leah Carman’s 10 points.

“It was a great team effort,” Brady said. “This was as close to a complete game as either team has played this year.”
