HUMBOLDT — The Lady Cubs volleyball team split matches Monday night at home. Humboldt earned a win in its match against Yates Center, but was unable to find similar success versus Erie.

The Lady Cubs cruised to victory against Yates Center, taking both sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-7. Jessica Myers was at the center of attack, earning a team high 13 kills. Alayna Johnson set up her hitters consistently, picking up 20 assists. Emma Johnson controlled the back line with nine digs, and Jada Dangerfield chipped in four digs along with four kills.

Against Erie, the Lady Cubs took the first set 25-18, but lost in the next two by scores of 26-24 and 25-21. Myers was solid in attack once again, leading with a team high eight kills. Alayna chipped in 15 assists, and sister Emma provided 14 digs. Also providing support in attack were Kady Hart earning four kills, and Kirstyn Murrow with four.

“We started league play tonight with Erie,” head coach Terry Meadows said. “We played great the first set and most of the second, but we let them go on a run late in the game, and we could not come back. I thought our defense was much improved from the weekend, we just had too many little mistakes.”

Marmaton Valley

The Wildcats were unable to scrape together a win in their trip to Maris Des Cygnes Valley. Marmaton Valley lost in five sets to their host by scores of 26-24, 16-25, 15-25. 25-21, and 7-15. Bailey Griffith provided offense and defense through her seven kills and eight blocks. Aly Ard led in kills with eight.
