Lady Cubs, Cubs sweep

HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High’s softball season started with two lopsided wins against Neodesha Tuesday night.
In game one, the Lady Cubs won 15-0 in four innings.
Courtney Richey earned the win, pitching a complete game. She allowed no hits, walked one and had 12 strikeouts.
Breanna Kline had a single, triple and an RBI. Mallory Roush had a single and two RBIs. Richey had a double and two RBIs. Jaci Ross had two singles and two RBIs. Delaney Umholtz hit a single. Makayla McCall hit two singles and had an RBI. Sabrina Arell hit a single and had three RBIs. Rylan Wilhite hit two singles.
Humboldt won game two 13-1.
Brook Turner pitched 5 innings, gave up no hits, two walks and had eight strikeouts.
Kline had a single and an RBI. Turner had a single and two RBIs. Roush hit a single and double. Richey hit a double. Ross hit a double, home run over the center field fence and had two RBIs.  Arell had a triple and an RBI.
“I was very happy with the pitching in both games,” coach Brad Piley said. “Our hitting will get better after a few more games.”
Humboldt (2-0) will travel to Erie on Thursday.

HUMBOLDT HIGH’S baseball season started just as well. The Cubs beat the Bluestreaks in both games. Humboldt won game one 11-0 and 14-4 in game two.
Humboldt (2-0) also will travel to Erie on Thursday.
