HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs and Cubs lost at home Tuesday against Cherryvale High’s Chargers.
The Lady Cubs lost Tri-Valley League games, 8-3 and 6-1, to the Lady Chargers.
Across town at Walter Johnson Field, Humboldt’s Cubs lost 12-6 and 8-1 to Cherryvale in TVL baseball action.
Lady Cub head coach Brad Piley wasn’t pleased with his team’s performance. He said the Lady Cubs didn’t get better as they had too many errors and not enough hits.
Taylor Fitzmaurice connected for a double and a single plus had two stolen bases for Humboldt in the first game. Melissa Davidson and Hannah Fiene each had a single.
Davidson pitched both games for Humboldt. She gave up seven hits, walked seven and struck out seven in the first. She allowed nine hits, walked five and had four strikeouts in the second.
Davidson and Kylee Carson each had two singles for Humboldt in the second game. Amanda Maxton singled.
The Cubs roared back to tie the first game. The Chargers were up 6-0 when Humboldt scored six runs in the bottom of the third.
But that was it for the Cubs. Cherryvale pushed across three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth for the 12-6 win.
Seth Nickell pitched three innings, allowing six runs on six hits and two walks he struck out three. Dustin Prock threw four innings, giving up six runs on 10 hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
Elijah Friederich had two singles and a double for Humboldt and Jacob Manbeck had two singles. Nickell and Derrik McCall each had a double. Hitting a single each were Chris Coronado, Ryan Gean, Riley McMillen and Prock.
“Offensively, we had one good inning,” said Jeremy Weilert, Cub head coach. “The rest of the time we just didn’t get it done.”
Friederich took the mound for the Cubs in the second game. He surrendered six hits, walked three and struck out nine in an 8-1 loss.
Only three of the runs were earned as Humboldt made “too many errors” defensively.
And the only hits were a single each by Friederich and Manbeck.
