Lady Cubs blast Erie

ERIE — The weather was anything but pleasant.
Humboldt High’s batters made it feel even worse against their opponents Tuesday from Erie High.
Despite having their doubleheader moved to Erie from Humboldt because of inclement weather, the Lady Cubs still were in complete control.
Humboldt rolled to 17-1 and 17-0 wins.
“We hit the ball extremely hard in the cold weather,” Humboldt coach Brad Piley said, noting Humboldt pounded 14 extra base hits combined over the two games.
Humboldt racked up 17 hits in the opener, while scoring six in the first, 10 in the second and one in the third.
Courtney Richey pitched both games, giving up a combined three hits with eight strikeouts.
Humboldt scored seven in the first and 10 in the second of the nightcap.
Offensive stars in the opener were Richey, a single, double, two stolen bases and an RBI; Kayle Riebel, single, double, triple and two RBIs. Brook Turner, single, two doubles, a stolen base and two RBIs; Casey Beeman, single, triple and three RBIs; Jaci Ross, two doubles, a triple and two RBIs; Megan Herder, two singles and two RBIs; Morgan Morris, a single and two RBIs and Megan Hudlin, a single and RBI.
“Courtney pitched two great games when it was very cold,” Piley said. “I was very proud of the Lady Cubs tonight.”

THE HIT PARADE continued in game two.
Kline smacked a single and double with three stolen bases and two RBIs. Riebel had an RBI; Turner had a single and two RBIs; Richey had a single, double, home run, two stolen bases and three RBIs; Beeman had two singles, a dobule, two stolen bases and RBI; Ross had a double, triple and two RBIs; Morris tripled with two RBIs and Hudlin had a single and RBI.
The Lady Cubs are in Yates Center Friday for the Lindsey Friederich Memorial Tournament. Humboldt will face Neodesha at about 2 p.m. in the opener, then either Yates Center or Iola in their second game.
