HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs dominated a Tri-Valley League doubleheader against Yates Center High’s Wildcats Tuesday.
The Lady Cubs notched victories of 13-3 and 11-1 in five innings each. Melissa Davidson was the winning pitcher for Humboldt in both games.
“Melissa had two strong outings. Our team had gotten better the last four games we’ve played,” said Brad Piley, Humboldt head coach.
“We also made some great plays on defense.”
The wins put the Lady Cubs at 5-3 overall.
Humboldt and Yates Center are in today’s tournament hosted by Yates Center. The Wildcats play Neodesha at noon followed by the Lady Cubs taking on Iola High’s Fillies.
Davidson held Yates Center to four hits in the first game Tuesday. She walked two and struck out five.
Humboldt scored five runs in the first inning to to up 5-1 and led 8-2 after two innings.
Davidson also led the hitting attack with two singles and a double. Kylee Carson hit a single and a double while Morgan Morris had two singles.
Hannah McCall doubled. Hitting a single each were Taylor Fitzmaurice, who had five stolen bases, Taylyn Wells, Kayle Riebel and Kindahl Young.
Davidson again just gave up four hits in the second game, walked two and struck out one. Humboldt scored three runs in the second and was up 4-0 when it plated four runs in the fourth.
McCall and K. Riebel each had a single and a double in the game. Fitzmaurice, Young and Megan Herder each had a single.
There was no report from Yates Center.r
Also the Register had no reports from either Humboldt or Yates Center on the baseball doubleheader Tuesday.
MVJH track teams compete at Yates Center
YATES CENTER — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s track athletes competed in a track meet hosted by Yates Center Tuesday.
“It was cold,” said Jamie Stodgell, MVJH track coach.
