CHERRYVALE — Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs had to be a little disappointed when the rain came Tuesday night.
They had suffered an 11-1 setback in Tri-Valley League softball action to host Cherryvale High’s Lady Chargers. They were just two runs down after four innings in the second game.
“Another rain-shortened game. We played a little better in the second game but weren’t able to finish it,” said Brad Piley, Humboldt head softball coach.
Kylee Carson had hit a three-run home run over the left field fence in the game. Humboldt was down 10-8 and the game was called after the top of the fifth inning.
The other hits in the game were all singles — one each by Taylyn Wells, Taylor Fitzmaurice, Kayle Riebel, Julie Seibert, Kindahl Young and Hayle Riebel.
Melissa Davidson was the losing pitcher. She gave up seven hits, walked three and had two strikeouts.
In the opener, Cherryvale was up 3-1 when it scored six runs in the third inning. The Lady Chargers added single runs in the fourth and fifth for the run-rule win.
Davidson took the loss. The Lady Chargers had 16 hits. Davidson walked two batters and struck out three.
Fitzmaurice, Carson, Seibert and H. Riebel each had a base hit for Humboldt.
The Lady Cubs are 5-5 overall. They play at Oswego Friday.
