High School Softball: Yates Center Lady Wildcats
After splitting with Northeast-Arma in the last series, Yates Center softball was back with a vengeance, rolling over St. Paul for a sweep.
The Lady Cats won the first game 16-1 and the second 18-0. They are now 5-1 so far this season.
Yates Center started the first game with 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning and then two more in the bottom of the second.
St. Paul scored a run in the top of the third and then the Lady Cats scored two more runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game on a run-rule.
Sophomore Taylor Jacobs got the win allowing just one run on two hits with three strikeouts in three innings.
Jordan Weseloh led the way offensively for Yates Center with three hits and Emma Chris-man, Madelynn Collins and Katelynn Jones each had two hits. Six Lady Cats had two RBIs.
The Wildcats stole five bases including two for Jones.
In the second game, Yates Center once again got off to a great start, scoring 10 in the first inning before scoring another eight runs in the second inning. The Wildcat defense held St. Paul down in the top of the third and the game was over.
Collins earned the win but more importantly recorded her second no-hitter of the season. She pitched three perfect innings while striking out four batters.
Weseloh and Chris-man each had two hits. Collins had just one hit but that hit drove in three runners. Chris-man had two RBIs and Jacobs had two RBIs on a hit.
The Lady Cats will host West Elk on Thursday for a doubleheader.
