ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Iola’s brightest star from spring’s track and field season has continued with a highly successful summer season.
Iola sophomore Elysia Kunkler will be headed to Lawrence July 25-31 for the Junior Olympics after qualifying in the long jump and the 100-meter hurdles at the regional meet in St. Louis on Saturday. Kunkler runs for the Oklahoma City Fuel.
Kunkler took third in the region in the long jump and fifth — with a clutch lean for a photo finish — in the 100-meter hurdles to go to the Junior Olympics.
Kunkler also qualified last year for the Junior Olympics that were held in Houston.
Kunkler and her family are hosting a celebration at 6:30 p.m. today at Rookies Sports Bar and Grill.
