King and Hermreck to compete in SEK All-Star Game on Sunday

On Sunday, 40 of the best senior boys and girls basketball players in Southeast Kansas will get one final chance to represent their high schools on a big stage when they square off against each other in the SEK All-Star Game in Pittsburg. 

Crest forward Hayden Hermreck and Yates Center forward Aaron King were selected to compete in the game, joined by the top seniors from the SEK, Three Rivers, CNC and Tri-Valley Leagues.

None of the area girls were selected. 

King and Hermreck will be joined by Pittsburg’s Brett Wiemers and Trenton Austin, Pleasanton’s Kaden McKee, Northeast-Arma’s Tre McLaughlin, Oswego’s Paidon Kite, Colgan’s Aaron Higgenbotham, Baxter’s Tucker Graves and Girard’s Evan Troike. 

They will face-off against a team led by the 3A Player of the Year in Girard’s Caleb Muia along with Parsons’ Devonte Yates, Independence’s Zeadric Daniels, Galena’s JC Shelton, Chanute’s Nate Audiss, Riverton’s Carson Shockley, Pittsburg’s Jerek Butcher, Baxter’s Trey White, Colgan’s Matt Lomshek and Frontenac’s Noah Brooks. 

The two girls teams include Galena’s Madyson Cox, Frontenac’s Madi Davis, Southeast’s Sailor Jackson, Colgan’s Kate Radell, Pleasanton’s Ella Sabine, Baxter’s Abbey Underhill, Independence’s Morgan Mavers, Parsons’ Sydney Krull, Colgan’s Aubri Piccini and Chanute’s Molly Rollins and Parsons’ Nena Taylor, Oswego’s Rileigh Vail, Independence’s Taylor Howland, Baxter’s Kassity Shafer, St. Paul’s Syndi McCracken, Girard’s Gabbi Sands, Columbus’ Macy Gray, Chanute’s Shayla Bogel, Labette’s Justice Brackney and Colgan’s Cathy Farmer. 

The girls’ game will tip at 1:30 p.m. at John Lance Arena with the boys’ game to follow. There will also be a three-point competition and a dunk contest.
