Kidwell wins pure stock race

HUMBOLDT — Tyler Kidwell had a little high school graduation magic Sunday.
Kidwell, newly graduated from Chanute High School, drove to his first-ever feature race win Sunday at Humboldt Speedway. The Speedway’s normal Friday program was rained out and moved to Sunday.
Kidwell won the pure stock feature race holding off Derek Michael. Michael ended up second followed by Jeremy Willard, David Matlock and Brandon Rowland.
John Allen captured the victory in the modified feature race. The race had multiple lead changes and Allen ran as far back as fifth. Allen and runner-up Austin Siebert battled to the end.
Brian Bolin, who led the race at times, came across in third place. Justin Folk grabbed fourth and Travis Smith, another race leader, rounded out the top five.
Jeremy Wilson is becoming quite comfortable on the Speedway track. Wilson collected another feature race win in factory stock. Scott Stuart finished second followed by Derrek Wilson, Tim Phillips and Keith Simmons.
Tim VanGotten started in the seventh spot in the B-Mod feature. He powered his way to the lead and claimed another victory. Jeremy Chambers ran second followed by Jimmie Davis, Dalton Kirk and Mike Highley.
Memorial Day weekend means double the action at Humboldt Speedway.
Friday is the regular program of races plus the kids’ bike races.
The Dwaine Whitworth Memorial is Sunday featuring a $1,000-to-win USRA vs. NCRA modified shoot out. On Sunday, gates open at 4 p.m. and races start at 7 p.m.
