Fore! This week the Allen County Country Club hosted young golfers ages 6 to 15 for a golf camp.
On the first two days instructors taught the basics of the game.
“Instructors taught them things like how to chip and putt,” L.C. Lacy, Allen County Country Club golf course superintendent said.
Members of the country club as well as Kaden Macha and Shame Walden of the Iola High School golf team helped with the instruction, Lacy said.
Kids took turns driving and putting on the course.
On Friday morning the kids played as many holes as they could in an hour and kept score for themselves. The club has put the camp on for the last 13 years. In the past, kids have had to pay a $10 registration fee but this year they did not. The Kansas Golf Association donated funds to the camp which made it free for participants.
After their game on the course, golfers enjoyed a lunch provided by the club. They also were able to swim in the club’s pool.
