Junior high Cubs compete at Burlington before league

Middle School Track and Field: Humboldt Cubs

The Humboldt Middle School track and field team competed at Burlington on Friday.

The seventh-grade girls finished fourth while the boys finished sixth. The eighth-grade girls finished seventh and the boys finished fifth.

The seventh-grade girls were led by a second-place performance in the 3200 by Lulu Melendez (14:28). Melendez also finished third in the 1600 with a time of 6:45.

Leah Mueller finished third in the 800 with a time of 3:08 and Carsyn Haviland finished third in the shot put with a distance of 24’2”.

For the seventh-grade boys, Maddox Johnson finished second in the shot put with a distance of 32’10.5”. Johnson also finished third in the discus with a distance of 83’4”.

Javyn Hess finished third in the 3200 with a time of 13.22 and Aiden Gean finished third in the long jump with a distance of 15’9”.

The medley relay team of Gean, Hess, Gavin Jaro and Dakota Slocum finished second with a time of 2:14.

Madi White finished third in the 800 for the eighth-grade girls with a time of 2:53.

Lakin Hunter finished second in the shot put with a distance of 32’11.5”.

The medley relay team of White, Taylor Korte, Anna Goforth and Katy Parker finished third with a time of 2.19.

The eighth-grade boys were led by the gold medal finishes of Drew Wilhite and Aden Kelley.

Wilhite finished first in the 3200 with a time of 11:49 and Kelley finished first in the long jump with a distance of 16’11”.

Colton Johnson finished second in the high jump with a height of 5’0”.

The medley relay team of Wilhite, Kelley, Johnson and Gavin Page finished second with a time of 1:58.

The Cubs will travel to Eureka on Tuesday to compete in their league meet.
