MORAN — A battle went down to the wire between Marmaton Valley Junior High and Crest Middle School in boys A team action Monday.
The host Wildcats prevailed over Crest, 33-32.
The game was tightly fought throughout, with Crest leading 16-13 at halftime and 25-23 after three quarters.
Trevor Wilson and Justice Pugh were the catalysts for Marmaton Valley. Wilson scored 19, and Pugh nine. Brock Hall added four.
Caleb Stephens poured in 14 to lead the Lancers. Gage Adams added 11. Chad Classen scored four and Austin Hendrix had three.
Meanwhile, the Lancer girls defeated Marmaton Valley’s A team, 32-20.
Crest led 8-4 after one quarter and 14-4 at halftime.
Makayla Jones had 13 and Kaitlyn LaCross 12 to pace Crest’s girls. Regan Godderz followed with six. Savanna McCulley scored a point.
Trinitee Gutierrez scored 10 to pace Marmaton Valley’s girls. Megan Ensminger added four points, while Shayla Brooks, Makayla Brooks and Clara Boyd had two apiece.
In B team action, the Wildcat boys won 18-9 in two quarters.
Isaac Heskett scored six to lead the Wildcats. Caiden Elliott followed with four. Trent Vest, Gage Griffith and Will Holeman scored two points each.
Kanon Coberley’s four points led Crest. Austin Louk and Kadyn Utley both had two. Brendon Hammer scored one.
The Wildcat girls B team won 13-6 in two quarters.
Paige Becker scored seven, Shailee Woods had four and Kaitlyn Knavel two for the Wildcats. Breyanna Benjamin scored four and Cassie Bowen two for the Lady Lancers.
Marmaton Valley hosts Jayhawk-Linn on Monday. Crest is at Westphalia.
