GIRARD — Humboldt High’s McKenna Jones tied a school record Thursday, by taking ninth at the Girard Invitational Cross Country Meet.
Jones ran the 5K route in 22 minutes, 14 seconds, a personal record.
She was joined on the medal stand by Lady Cub teammate Tori Melendez, who took 24th in 25:17, also a personal record.
On the boys side, Peyton Wallace earned a 14th place medal by finishing in 19:33.
Middle-schoolers Thatcher Mueller and Jack Works took third and fifth place, respectively, in the eighth-grade boys 2-mile race. Jo Ellison took fourth in the eighth-grade girls race, as did Carter Collins in the seventh-grade boys race. Each of the middle-schoolers ran 2 miles.
ELSEWHERE, Marmaton Valley High’s Kiowa Bloemer earned a 19th-place medal in his varsity boys race at the Fort Scott Invitational, while teammate Zach Allee took 29th. Their times weren’t immediately available.
Sophia Heim took fifth in a junior varsity girls race.
Max Wehry and Brendon Newman finished eighth and ninth, respectively, among eighth-grade boys. Tucker Sutton took third among seventh-grade boys, followed by Thomas Allee in fifth and Colin Ard in 16th. Emma Louk placed third and Haylie Aiello seventh in the seventh-grade girls race.
