MORAN — Pleasanton High’s Blu-Jay girls felt very comfortable at the free-throw line on their opponents’ home court Friday. Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats couldn’t answer.
The Blu-Jays cashed in 19 of 34 free throw attempts, boosting themselves to a 37-26 win over the Wildcats.
“Pleasanton made free throws. We put them on the line and they took advantage of it,” said Kent Houk, MVHS head coach. “We didn’t put the ball in the hoop.”
Pleasanton held a 20-10 halftime advantage. Marmaton Valley outscored the Jays 9-8 in the third but Pleasanton held on with a 9-7 surge for the fourth quarter.
Morgan Henry scored six points to lead Marmaton Valley. Maggie Meiwes had five rebounds and three blocked shots.
Marmaton Valley is 1-12 overall. The Wildcats travel to St. Paul Monday for a makeup game then plays at Altoona-Midway Tuesday.
Pleasanton got 12 points from Johnnea Saulsberry, who had 10 free throws.
