LE ROY—A big night offensively for guard Ashton Isch helped Southern Coffey County High’s Lady Titans get a much needed win before the long break leading up to the Lyon County League Tournament.

On fire from behind the arc with five threes, Isch’s 22 points were a game high as the Lady Titans topped Burlingame High’s Bearcats 46-38, bringing their season record to 4-5 at the midway point.

Both teams opened the contest with sputtering offenses, forcing just a combined 14 points. But that changed in the second period when each team more than doubled its first quarter scoring production. The Lady Titans went into half with a one-point lead, 25-24.

Tired of trading baskets throughout the first half, Southern Coffey County stepped up its defensive presence in the third period. It paid off. The Lady Titans held the Bearcats to just five points in the opening period of the second half; and that stymie defense and added pressure opened up shooting lanes for the offense.

“We executed better and got some good looks at the basket,” said Lady Titan head coach Jeff True, referring to the team’s second-half play.

With a suffocating defense, the nine-point margin Southern Coffey County took into the fourth period was enough  for  the victory.

Sarah Webb added 10 points and Martyna Hegwald scored nine. The trio also led the team with five rebounds each.

Leading scorer for the Bearcats was H. Lewis with 20 points.
