Iola’s Sigg, others earn state honors

Iola High junior Jerrik Sigg and 10 area eight-man football players garnered state recognition for the 2010 football season.
The Topeka Capital Journal and Wichita Eagle released their 2010 All-State and All-Class football teams on Sunday.
Sigg, a 6-foot, 174-pound wide receiver, earned All-Class 4A state honorable mention as an end (receiver) from both newspapers. Sigg was a first-team selection to the 2010 All-Southeast Kansas League  football team as the Mustangs went 0-9 on the season.
Sigg was the team’s leading receiver with 50 catches for 606 yards. Sigg also rushed for 342 yards on 70 carries. He finished tied for 13th on the Southeast Kansas League scoring leaders’ board with seven touchdowns and three two-point conversions for 48 points.
Crest High’s Lancers advanced to the Eight-Man Division I regional level of the playoffs. Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats and the Southern Coffey County High Titans did not make the eight-man playoffs but had several players with solid seasons.
Crest had five players earn Eight-Man honorable mention from the Topeka newspaper and Marmaton Valley had one player.
Crest’s Luke Decker and Thomas Dietrich and Marmaton Valley’s Justin Holeman drew recognition as linemen. All are seniors.
Sophomore Kyle Hammond and senior Dexter Wiley, both of Crest, received honorable mention as backs. Crest senior Dakota Ramsey was given honorable mention as a linebacker.
The Wichita Eagle named Eight-Man offensive  and defensive honorable mention players.
On offense, Southern Coffey County senior Aaron Ludolph was honored as an end while Crest junior Jayden Bowen and Decker along with Marmaton Valley’s Holeman earned lineman honorable mention. Hammond of Crest was given honorable mention as running back.
Decker garnered double honors from the Wichita newspaper. He earned honorable mention as lineman as did teammate Byran Miller, a senior.
Southern Coffey County senior Travis Bryan joined Crest’s Dietrich and Ramsey as honorable mention linebackers. Wiley earned honorable mention as a defensive back.
