The Fillies freshman volleyball squad hosted a tournament Saturday that included Marmaton Valley, Frontenac, Paola, Central Heights and Burlington.
Iola played each one of the schools in two-set matchups and finished the day in third place behind Paola and Burlington, which won the tournament with a 9-1 record in 10 sets.
The Fillies went 7-3 in their 10 sets, winning their first five before rounding out the tournament by going 2-3.
Iola won in straight sets against Marmaton Valley (26-24, 25-9), Frontenac (25-20, 25-22) and Central Heights (25-11, 25-13).
Against Paola, Iola split the two sets (25-23, 13-25). And in the final matchup against Burlington, coach Jeff Fehr’s freshmen dropped both sets (18-25, 21-25).
“We started off the day great, giving us a chance to be there at the end,” Fehr said. “We started running out of gas against Burlington. The girls played great all day, we are starting to communicate and gel.”
Madison Holloway and Shaylee Sutterby led the Fillies in kills.
Mia Aronson, Macie Martin, Paige Burrough and Sutterby led the teams in serves.
And Aronson recorded the most assists for the Fillies throughout the tournament.
