Iola volleyballs six seniors got their best possible home send-off Tuesday night after ending the regular season with two league wins.
The Fillies beat Prairie View in two sets and Osawatomie in three.
The matches were the final at home for seniors Piper Moore, Shaylee Sutterby, Ellie Carson, Mia Aronson, Paige Burrough and Sadie Maple.
Led by four-year starter Moore, this group of Fillies has been put through the wringer throughout their high school career cycling through four head coaches.
Current head coach Amanda Strickler said given the high turnover of coaching staff, the seniors have stuck together and proven to not only be leaders, but also shown dramatic improvement.
Ive been very proud of them because of how theyve adapted this year. Im their fourth head coach and I give them a lot of compliments on running with the changes and buying in. Im very appreciative of that.
As for Tuesday nights wins, Strickler said, It was a great way to end the regular season. I was happy that we could get that one for the seniors.
THE FILLIES started things off with a 25-12 and 25-15 dominant win over Prairie View.
Becca Sprague had four aces and six assists to lead the way followed by Moore with five kills, three for Carson and three blocks for Lauryn Holloway.
Sometimes we have trouble starting, but today we didnt, Strickler said.
Iola in the past has also had trouble restarting when faced with long wait times between matches.
But Tuesday, the Fillies started off strong against Osawatomie with a 25-15 first set win. They then lost set two 25-17 thanks to a barrage of errors and missed serves which led to the deciding third set.
In set three, Iola jumped out to an early lead and held it but the Trojans were always just a few points behind until Moore stepped up and through a stellar serving run pushed Iolas lead to double-digits down the stretch.
Absolutely nothing at all, Moore said on what she was thinking during the run. I cant think when I play volleyball. I just do.
