The Iola junior varsity, freshmen and C teams wrapped up their seasons around two weeks ago with mixed results.

The Iola girls’ junior varsity got wins over Santa Fe Trail and Wellsville while the JV and C-Team boys all lost.

The Fillies hosted Santa Fe Trail on Feb. 21 and won 35-31.

Iola jumped out to an 11-point lead at the half and managed to hang on throughout the final two quarters for the four-point win.

Junior Rachel Bycroft had seven points in the win followed by six for sophomore Kailey Schinstock. Sophomores Hannah Gardner and Becca Sprague each had five and junior Elysia Kunkler and sophomore Lauryn Holloway each had four points. Junior Gabby Lampe had three points and junior Ella Taylor had a point.

A day later, the Fillies traveled up to Wellsville and won 36-19. Iola jumped out to a 22-8 lead by halftime and the Fillies outscored the Lady Eagles in the final two quarters to wrap-up the win.

Bycroft led things again with nine points followed by eight each for Holloway and Kunkler. Taylor had four, Gardner had three and Lampe and Schinstock each had two.

Meanwhile, the Mustangs struggled.

They lost to Santa Fe Trail 38-34.

Iola trailed by only four heading into the half but the Chargers matched the Mustangs point-for-point in the second half, keeping Iola’s comeback hopes at bay.

Sophomore Bradyn Cole had a big 16-point game followed by six each for junior Elijah Fawson and freshman Tyler Boeken.

Sophomore Nathan Louk had three, junior Noah Ashmore had two and sophomore Landon Carson had a point.

The boys C-team also competed versus Santa Fe Trail and lost 38-30.

Boeken had 11 followed by eight for freshman Karson Sigg, seven for freshman Cooper Riley and two each for freshmen Ryker Curry and Sam Fager.

Those losing ways followed the junior varsity to the season closer at Wellsville where the Mustangs fell 50-40.

A five-point deficit after the first quarter slowly grew to double-digits by the final buzzer.

Cole had another nice game with 12 and sophomore Dillon Bycroft reached double-digits with 10. Louk had five points, sophomore Jack Adams had four and senior Dylan Newland had three points.

Fawson, Carson and Boeken each ended the game with two.
