Iola track takes leaps and bounds at Osawatomie

Steady improvement by the Mustang and Filly track teams continued Thursday at Osawatomie with both teams taking fourth overall. 

Elysia Kunkler led the way with three first-place finishes and a second-place finish. 

Kunkler took first in the high hurdles with a time of 15.07 which was her best time this season by a second and a half before setting a season-best time in the 100 with a time of 12.94. Then, to top it off, she jumped 17’10.5” in the long jump, a personal best and a meet record. 

To close things out, Kunkler ran anchor for the 4×100 team along with Kassy Shelby, Ella Taylor and Elanie Sturgeon. The team took second with a time of 54.48. 

Joining Kunkler atop the podium was Christine Helman who won the discus with a throw of 101’6”. She also took second in the shot put with a throw of 29’5” and fifth in the javelin with a throw of 76’11”.  

Rachel Bycroft won the 3200 with a time of 13:34.93 in a race where she finished 40 seconds ahead of the next runner. 

Ella Taylor took second in the pole vault with a height of 8’6” which was a personal record. Averie Sharon took third in the 3200 with a time of 13:11.90 and the 4×800 team of Audrey Coltrane, Sturgeon, Taelyn Maley and Josie Plumlee took fourth with a time of 11:58.73. 

Plumlee took sixth in the 1600 with a time of 6:25.84.  

ON THE BOYS’ side, Mat Karr made a huge breakthrough in the shot put, throwing a winning distance of 40’7” which was the first time that he’s thrown over 40 feet. 

Cole Regehr took second in the 800 with a time of 2:14.23 and Jack Adams took second in the 3200 with a time of 10:41.59. 

The 4×100 team of Brett Willis, IJ Badders, Evan Casner and Kolten LaCrone took second despite a bad baton exchange between Casner and first time-4×100 runner LaCrone with a time of 10:41.59.

The 4×800 team of Tavon Bass, Adams, Regehr and Riley Jay also took second with a time of 9:17.87 which was a season-best. 

Logan Brown took third in both the shot put (38’6.75”) and the discus (110’8”). The discus distance was a personal record. 

Brett Willis took third in the 100 with a time of 11.86 which was a personal best. He also finished fifth in the long jump with a distance of 18’4.5” which was also a personal record for him. 

Casner took third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.33, a personal record by three seconds. 

LaCrone took fourth in the discus (107’3”) and Badders took fourth in the triple jump (35’11”).
