Iola Soccer A team is in first place

Moving into first place with a 4-1 win Sunday, Iola Soccer Club’s A-team has one more game in its 2011 SEK soccer league season.
Iola turned a close game, tied 1-all at halftime, into a win over visiting Coffeyville A-team Sunday. Iola scored three goals in the second half while shutting out Coffeyville.
Now, Iola (6-2-0) is one team point ahead of Independence (5-1-2), which has two ties. Iola has 18 points and Independence 17. Coffeyville is 3-3-2 and Columbus is 0-8-0.
Iola travels to Columbus this Sunday for a 2 p.m. game.
Against Coffeyville A, Colby Works scored two goals and had an assist while Ashley Cary and Calob Mock had one goal each.
Mason Key was in goal the first half for Iola and made eight saves. Braden Plumlee made four saves as goalkeeper in the second half.
Iola B-team finished in a 2-2 tie with Coffeyville-B Sunday. Ethan Tavarez and Matt Karr each had a goal for Iola.
Tavarez had seven saves and Joey Zimmerman made four saves as Iola’s goalkeepers.
It was 1-1 at halftime.
Iola B-team finishes the season at home this Sunday with a 3 p.m. game against Chanute.
