Competing on home court or in this case in home waters, Iola’s Seahorses won 43 of the 78 races contested Wednesday against visiting Erie. It was the first home swim meet of the summer for the Iola Swim Team.
Some of the highlights were a sweep of the individual races by Jenna Miller in the girls’ 7-8-year-old division. Autumn Johnson won four individual races and Cassidy Lowell notched a first-place finish in one race in the girls’ 9-10-year old division. Della Lohman and Elise Wolf each had a victory in the girls’ 11-12-year old competition. Kelli Lee nailed down three wins in the girls’ 15-18-year old division.
The guys had highlights, too. Carter Hutton won the 6-and-under 25-yard backstroke and the 25-yard butterfly and William Jay was the winner in the 25-yard breaststroke. LeeRoi Johnson had four wins in the boys’ 9-10-year-old division and Guiseppe Mangrella had one victory in the 7-8-year-old division. Kendall Jay had three wins and Ethan Holloway had one win in the 11-12-year-old division. Fryendz Wallace won four of the six races in the 13-14-year-old division, and the other two were won by Tyler Holloway. Jordan Strickler had three victories in the 15-18-year-old division.
Iola hosts Cherryvale next Wednesday. Races begin at 6 p.m. at the Iola Municipal Pool.
