Iola’s Ryker Curry has already had an eventful summer on the baseball diamond.
Curry, who recently completed his junior year at Iola High School, was invited to pitch over the weekend at an all-star baseball showcase in Emerson, Ga.
He was a part of a squad of players primarily from Kansas and Missouri through the Mac N Seitz baseball and softball training center in Kansas City, Mo.
Curry, son of Iolans Heath and Heather Curry, threw four innings against an all-star prep team from Alabama.
Curry allowed three runs and four strikeouts. Radar guns have clocked his fastball at 87 mph.
“My arm felt pretty good,” he said.
The Curry family also took in an Atlanta Braves game while in Georgia.
The invite came after Curry attended a mini camp at the Mac N Seitz facility in February.
He’ll be a part of three more Mac N Seitz events through the summer, all in Kansas City. He may also play at a tournament in Iowa.
Meanwhile, Curry will join his Iola AA American Legion teammates tonight for a doubleheader at home against Ottawa, and two more in Montgomery County on Thursday.
He was named to the all-Pioneer League first team.
Curry tossed 22 innings through the spring for Iola High, striking out 37 batters and holding opponents to a .190 batting average.
While at bat, Curry hit .367 with 27 runs, 20 RBIs, four doubles and three triples.
Curry also stole seven bases.
