Iola Middle hosts track meet

What seemed like a million middle school track and field athletes competed in an Iola home invitational meet on Monday. Seventh and eighth graders from local schools like Marmaton Valley and Anderson County competed in running and field events.

It was an eventful Monday at Riverside Park as the Iola Middle School track and field team hosted a meet with various local schools in attendance. 

Iola secured second place as a team in both the eighth grade boys and girls standings, third place in the seventh grade boys and 10th place in the seventh grade girls section of the day. 

7th grade 

In the girls high jump, Sheridan Byrd took fifth place with a jump of 4 feet, 2 inches.

In the boys high jump, Bentley Zarhouni took 12th place with a leap of 4’ 0”.

In the girls long jump, Bella Wilson placed second with a jump of 12’ 1.75” while Harlei Gregg took 14th place at 11’ 1.25” and Jordyn Spillman took 19th place with a jump of 10’ 1.5”. 

In the boys long jump, Kevon Loving took first place at 16’ 7”. Reginald Davis took ninth place with a jump of 12’ 0.50” and Colton Thompson came in 16th place at 11’ 2.5”. 

In the girls discus, Jordyn Potter took 20th place after she threw 40’ 3”. Jordyn Spillman took 26th place with her throw of 30 feet. 

In the boys discus, Ayden McCullough was 24th place with a throw of 46’ 8.50”. Drake Genoble, 28’ 4.5”, took 29th place while Brycen Baker, 28’ 7.50”, took 30th place. 

For the girls shot put, Potter took 18th place with a throw of 20’ 6” while Spillman came in 19th place at 20’ 4”. Sydney Ebberts took 31st place after her throw of 14’ 0.25”.

In the boys shot put, McCullough finished 17th with a throw of 22’ 2”. Baker came in 24th place at 18’ 4”, Genoble at 27th with 16’ 10”, and Cameron Palmer finished in 30th. 

In the boys 100 meter hurdles, Thompson earned third place with a time of 20.29 seconds. 

In the girls 100 meter dash, Kali Joy and Harlei Gregg finished in seventh and eighth with times of 14.84 and 15.08 seconds, respectively. Bella Wilson placed 24th after finishing in 15.90 seconds. 

In the boys 100 meter dash, Loving took first place in 12.73 seconds and Davis was second place with a time of 12.95 seconds. Thompson came in 13th place with a time of 14.42 seconds. 

In the girls 1600 meter run, Blayke Patterson finished in ninth with a time of 7:40.74. Ebberts came in 16th place with a time of 8:29.39. On the boys side, Mosiah Fawson placed third with a time of 6:01.92 and Brodon Westerman came in 14th in 6:51.36.
