SILVER LAKE — Chase Roettgen and Zack Vaughn of Iola High placed in the 171-pound weight class of the Silver Lake High JV Invitational Saturday.
Roettgen placed second, losing by a pin to Watson of Seaman in the championship match. He moved to that spot with a pin of Haggerty of Paola, a 14-4 decision over Brown of Wamego and beating Cohelo of St. James Academy 6-4.
Vaughn took fourth with only one loss of the day. He dropped a 7-0 decision to Colucci of Salina South. Vaughn opened with a pin of Benton of Paola then the loss. He came back to record pins over Roberts of Paola, Haggerty of Paola and Cohelo of St. James.
Bryce Misenhelter finished fourth at 160. He dropped a 16-0 decision to Taylor of Paola then beat Luebuke of Marysville 10-5. Misenhelter pinned Youk and Hadle, both of Paola, then was pinned by McGaha of Salina South.
Also at 160, Travis Rieske was 2-2. Rieske pinned Rookstool of Clay Center and Edwards of Salina South but was pinned by Sanchez of St. Marys and Carnes of Salina South.
Zeph Larney was 3-2 in the 140-pound class. He pinned Dapkiewiz of Topeka-Seaman, was pinned by Massek of Silver Lake, pinned Hulsether and King, both of Seaman, and lost 6-4 to Wiltz of St. Marys.
Tristan Sigfusson and Cody Conner each were 1-2 in the 125-pound class. Sigfusson’s win was a 12-10 decision over Blankenbiller of Paola then he was pinned by Gullotta of Prairie View and Kerns of Salina South. Conner pinned Thomas of Paola and was pinned by Grand of Seaman and Rademader of Paola.
“Some of our guys, especially at the junior varsity level, had a real nice tournament,” said Ron Schomaker, IHS head wrestling coach, after the varsity and junior varsity tournament.
