The Fillies’ junior varsity softball squad got off to a great start to their season on Tuesday as they won two home games against Chanute.
Game one ended with a 4-3 decision.
Mia Aronson pitched that game for the Fillies and was able to hold down the Chanute offense and help her team to get the win.
It was the first high school experience for the freshman.
Aronson also scored two runs as she went 2-of-3 from the plate to help her own cause.
Game two had a much different feel for both teams but ended with the same team on top.
Iola was able to out-slug Chanute and emerged with a 20-15 win.
Iola’s biggest inning came in the game’s final inning, when they pushed eight runs across.
Aronson had another big game as a hitter for the Fillies as she scored four runs, crossing the plate in every plate appearance that she had in the game.
Toni Macha, Madisyn Holloway and Maci Martin each scored three runs to add to the Iola attack.
Tuesday marked the head coaching debut for new Fillies’ coach Chris Weide.
Weide and the Fillies will open up their varsity season on Thursday when they travel to Chanute.
The varsity baseball squad will also be in Chanute on Thursday to open their season.
