Iola American Legion Post 15’s Indians are the No. 2 seed in this weekend’s Kansas American Legion AA Zone 4 Tournament at Chanute.
The top seed is Baxter Springs. The two teams earned first-round byes.
Zone 4 tournament action begins tonight at Paul Lindblad Field in Chanute’s Katy Park. Sedan plays Halstead at 6 o’clock followed by Chanute taking on Wellington at 8 o’clock.
Iola plays the winner of the Sedan-Halstead game at 6 p.m. Friday. Baxter Springs awaits the winner of the Chanute-Wellington game, playing at 8 p.m. Friday.
On Saturday, two losers bracket games are slated, starting at 1 p.m. The winners bracket final will be at 5 p.m. followed by another losers bracket game.
The losers bracket final is at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The Zone 4 championship game is at 3 p.m. Sunday. If another game is necessary to determine title, it will be at 1 p.m. Monday.
The winner of the Zone 4 tournament receives a berth in the 2010 Kansas American Legion AA State Tournament, July 28-Aug. 1, in Marysville.
Iola’s Indians are 22-16 this season. The Indians last went to state in 2007 as Zone 3 champions.
