Iola High JV, freshman results

The Iola High JV and freshman teams competed Friday at home against Osawatomie and Saturday on the road in a tournament hosted by Central Heights.
On Friday, the JV Mustangs squad lost to the Trojans, 46-32. Zachary Cokely accounted for nearly half of Iola’s points with his 15-point performance.
Rhett Allen was second on the team with 5 points, Mason Ingle and Evan Sigg tied for third with 4 points each and Kane Rogers and Braden Plumlee rounded out the scoring with 2 points each.
Iola’s freshman boys routed Osawatomie, 42-3. Derek Bycroft and Tayton Driskel were the two Mustangs that had double-digit scoring performances, recording 13 and 10 points respectively.
Cole Regehr finished the game with 6 points. Blake Ashmore and Kane Rogers had 5 points a piece. Dylan Doolittle scored 2 points and Brady Folk scored 1.
On the girls side, the freshman Fillies defeated the Trojans, 31-6, in two quarters. Piper Moore was Iola’s main source of offense as she scored a team-high 16 points.
Kassy Shelby scored 5 points. Jennifer Tidd and Kendra Sprague weren’t far behind with 4 points each. And, rounding out the Fillies’ scoring, Emmie Brant had 2 points on the night.
Shaylee Sutterby didn’t score, but she added 3 rebounds and 2 assists in Iola’s winning efforts.
One day after taking down Osawatomie, Iola’s freshmen and sophomores traveled to Central Heights and placed second out of four teams competing in a tournament Saturday.
In the first game, the Fillies beat Anderson County , 32-28. Madisyn Holloway scored a team-high 13 points. Shelby had 7 points, Sutterby had 5 and Sprague, Scout Rush and Carly Cescon each had 2. Moore had 1 point.
Iola lost the championship round to Jayhawk-Linn, 34-16. Once again, Holloway led the way with 5 points. Moore, Rush and Shelby had 3 each. Cescon and Chloe Gardner had 1 point a piece.
Iola’s freshmen are back in action today as they serve host to a home tournament starting at 5:30 p.m.
