The rain held off just long enough for the Iola High softball team to be taken down by Santa Fe Trail at home Tuesday afternoon.
The Mustangs went down early when the Chargers scored two runs in each of the first three innings.
That’s all Santa Fe Trail would have to muster up to come out on top as the Mustangs were held hitless in the 6-0 defeat.
Elza Clift started in the pitching circle for Iola, worked four innings and gave up six runs on four hits while walking four.
Kinsey Schinstock came on in relief in the fifth inning to pitch and didn’t give up a run while striking out one and walking one.
Santa Fe Trail knocked four hits. Gretchen Huizenga had a team-high three hits for the Chargers.
The Mustangs travel to Emporia for a doubleheader on Thursday at 4 p.m.
